The “New Linda” Cultural Impact

Louie Hatem, owner of the New Linda Theater from 1931 to 1955 was a guy that didn’t spare expenses. As this ad in John Fleming’s People’s Advocate indicates, he wanted residents around the Hocking Valley and Shawnee to have a great Saturday night experience! He even tried to track down the latest movies, traveling to Cincinnati, to ensure quality films were shown to accompany his state of art RCA Symphonic Sound Projectors. Take a look at this Linda Theater Ad from around 1943! The New Linda was known for quality sound and quality-price points. Movies Ten has some unbeatable prices by today’s standards! But, it’s hard to beat a dime and 13 cents, even by 1943 standards! The taste for quality is evident as the theater had once featured “The Black Swan” nominated for three academy awards and winner of 1942 Best Cinematography, Color award! One more reason why the Tecumseh Theater is a cultural keystone of Appalachian Ohio!
